I played high school sports, but not the fun ones. I competed in cross-country, track, and in college I played a lot of pickup basketball. It was at that time that I spent a lot of time lifting weights with a group of friends, under no direction. That’s about all I did from the age of eighteen to twenty three. After that, I took off a few years, started practicing law, had two kids, and was left looking back at a decade of not working out. It was at that point that I came to MSP Fitness for a free consultation.

I then started working out in the group classes. For me, it was really fun going through and learning all these different lifts, understanding that they are actually highly technical. It’s never about just putting some weight on and throwing the weight up, there’s a lot more that goes into it. For a skinny guy, who was a runner in high school, I actually feel pretty strong, doing things I didn’t think I’d be able to! I feel I’m in much better overall shape. I used to never work legs, it was just run around and bench a little. Now, my legs feel stronger than they ever have in my life and from a whole body standpoint, I just feel better.

The thing that surprised me most is that three days a week got me to where I am today. I really thought that to get to where I’m feeling, in the shape that I’m in, I’d have to be in the gym five or six days a week. I’m really surprised that three days of work, with nothing outside of the gym, has gotten me the results I’ve wanted. At the end of the day, I’m not doing competitive sports. I just need to be able to play with the kids, walk around and not be injured, and not be weak. I really like that aspect of what MSP Fitness provides.
