Wow, we MADE IT!  Wednesday, March 30th, 2016 marks our 7 year anniversary in business!  I am very proud to say that in looking back over the years, it has been a pretty sweet ride, and I have no regrets.

MSP Fitness Humble Beginnings

If you’ve heard me talk about the history of our business you’ve likely heard this story…but allow me to repeat myself.  I thank (and blame) my wife Van for all of this.  I have always said that without her unconditional support and trust in me, none of this would have happened.  I will always remember the exchange between her and I going something like this. “What’s the worst that could happen?” she said, with my powerful and eloquent retort being “A LOT!”  Her next statement will tell you much about her, because she then followed up with “So what? If you never try, you’ll always look back with regret.” She was absolutely, 10,000% right. Like I said, I thank (and blame) her everyday.

In marriage they talk about “The 7 year itch”.  Well with MSP Fitness made it past the “Honeymoon” period, and after 7 amazing, challenging, beautiful, and explorative years later, I am elated to say we’re still here and going strong.

After 7 Amazing Years, MSP Fitness In All It’s Glory

Right about now, you’re likely anticipating a “Oh my…how time flies” sort of statement, but I am here to tell you that for any of you who have owned your own business, put in the hard work day after day after day, I’ve felt every one of those 2557 days, but wouldn’t have it any other way.  (Nerd moment…we had two leap years in that period, hence the 2557, not 2555)

Of course it’s not been all rainbows and unicorns…it IS a small business people. Anyone who said that being your own boss is easy, and that the hours are short and it’s got a great pension plan, has never owned their own business.  I joke a little but of course it can be all consuming. With that said, it does make the rewards that much more sweet, and truly I’d not change a thing.

a66125101720021d2d7ff7ef61ac30fcIf I were to summarize these last 7 years, what I am the most proud of is that I have been true to my values and passion around what long term health and fitness means to me and thus what goes on within the walls of our facility every single day.  Our evolution as a gym over the years has been massive, and I love that. If you’re not moving forward, evolving, then it’s time to move on.

I’m very proud to say we’re not the sexy 30-second-sound-bite gym. We’re not going to shovel contrived before and after pictures in your face. We at MSP Fitness will NEVER compromise our values and what we know to be right and true when it comes to helping our clients with their health and fitness goals.

We’re not a gym of TELLING. We’re a gym of LEARNING and LONG TERM DEVELOPMENT.  I’ve always said that the best client for us is someone who’s gone through the gauntlet a couple of times and tried and failed.  Someone who is now ready to listen and learn, and understands that any result worth its weight in salt will take time…and that’s a GREAT THING!

With all of the above said, we would be nowhere without the absolutely STELLAR women and men who call MSP Fitness their fitness home…a large number of which have been with me since the very beginning. I’ve said before that it’s an immense responsibility to be a coach and gym owner.  The trust that our clients put in us is awesome and humbling.  We do not take that trust lightly or for granted.

I’d also be remiss if I didn’t thank my stellar TEAM.  Being able to build this gym with my Wife has been awesome.  While it does make for a pretty consistent conversation point at most meals, if we weren’t in this together, this wouldn’t be possible.  I also want to thank Taylor for joining us on this health and fitness train.  It’s a treat everyday to come and work alongside a friend, great athlete, and passionate coach.  You both make this all worth it!  Lastly I have to thank my coach, mentor, and friend James “OPT” FitzGerald.  His brilliance, along with his support and challenge to me over the years has been invaluable in helping me hone my craft, and find my place in this industry.

Here is to many, many more years of health and fitness ahead.
